Ancient Civilizations & World Religions 12 (Comparative Civilizations 12)

Basically, this course looks back to the Ancient world in order to helps us understand our modern world.
A major goal will be to look for answers to the following questions:

  • Did sexism, racism, and homophobia always exist? What is human nature?
  • When did class inequality arise?
  • Did humans always exploit the environment?

To answer these questions, we will look back to the times of early humans through to the beginnings of the first civilizations and onto the age of the great empires of Rome, China, Egypt, India, and South America.
We will also learn about major world religions and participate in field trips to a Catholic Church, Jewish Synagogue, Muslim Mosque, and a Sikh Temple.
There will be an opportunity for an independent study on a historical topic or inquiry question.
