Human Geography 12 (Geography 12)

In Human Geography we will explore the human relationship to the physical planet. We will study demographic patterns and population distribution and how they are influenced by the physical features and natural resources of the planet. As well, we will explore how human activities have altered landscapes and the current and future impact of these interactions. To do this, we will study the physical landscape but with an emphasis on the human relationship. All of this will connect to the overall topics of climate change and sustainability and include connections to indigenous land practices and traditions.
We will explore these topics through inquiry, following students’ passions and interests. Students will be able to analyze the reliability of sources, the quality of evidence, and draw conclusions from research. In addition, students will be able to identify and assess how human and environmental factors and events influence each other. Finally, students will learn to make reasoned ethical judgments about controversial actions in the past or present and determine whether we have a responsibility to respond.
