Law Studies 12 (Law 12)

Canadian laws have an effect on just about every aspect of our lives. They guarantee our rights and freedoms, while simultaneously restricting certain behaviours. They endeavour to provide safety and security and provide a framework for determining guilt and innocence as needed.

Law 12 provides an introduction to both criminal law and civil law. You will find the legal concepts covered in this course relevant to your lives as students and your adult lives. Becoming a legally literate citizen will assist you in making choices that will benefit you both personally and professionally.

In addition to the theory of law, there is always an emphasis on current events and the practical application of the law at. Relevant local and national crime stories will be followed and discussed, and there will be multiple opportunities to visit the Victoria Law Courts where we will have a front row seat to actual criminal trials.

Law 12 is an excellent companion course to Criminology 12, but enrolment in both is not required.

This course offers a scholarship to the most outstanding law student.
