Social Studies 10 is a course that centers on Canada in the 20th century. Students will learn about the structure of the Canadian parliamentary system as well as major political and economic ideologies.
This will help students to gain a deeper understanding of the world of politics at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Students will also learn about Canada’s role in the world, including the World Wars, the Cold War, and peacekeeping. Knowledge of these events is an especially important tradition at Vic High since so many students and teachers fought in these conflicts.
Finally, the focus shifts to the story of Canada domestically in the last one hundred years. Prominent issues include Canadian autonomy and identity, the Great Depression, relations with Quebec, and the Aboriginal experience of the 20th century. Social Studies 10 is an important course for students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the events and people who shaped this great nation.
